How to update your spring style
A new season means stores are full of new styles, fragrances and more. Here’s what we have our eye on this spring, from a new pair of heels to restocking old favourites like LUX Soft Touch.
1. A fab new fragrance
A change of season is the best time to get out of a fragrance rut. When choosing your spring scent, avoid the headache of a perfume counter and do some detective work of your own.
Your olfactory memory – the recollection of smells filed inside your brain – can transport you back to a time and place that fills you with happy memories. A great way to pick a new scent is to remember smells that evoke these happy feelings – look back through old photos and remember the scents you experienced, or visit your local florist to enjoy the first new blooms of spring.
We love Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey City Blossom with its layered perfume of pink pepper, lemon, freesia and musk, and LUX Soft Touch with its French Rose notes. Both are delightfully feminine in their own ways.
2. A nearly-new wardrobe
Pick and choose the best of this season’s styles and incorporate them into your current wardrobe for an evolving look that will last. A great tip for keeping your new look in check is to limit yourself to just two or three new pieces that reflect the current spring trends, and work them around what you already have.
Sure to last more than one season is the spring 2016 trend of futuristic low heels and low wedges – look to Chloé, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana for your inspiration.
New jewellery is also an easy upgrade to your spring look, and earrings are the big statement piece this season. Shoulder-dusters have been seen across catwalks from Alexander Wang to Prada (above), and are a great way to glam out the little black dress you already own.
3. Spring skin
Timeless spring style is easy to achieve by giving your skin a little love. Take extra care to hydrate winter skin with products that boost hydration. It’s not just your face that needs attention – give your entire body a boost with a pampering LUX body wash.
Update your winter look with soft, dewy hues. Products that perform double duty are ideal for spring – look for a light foundation with sunscreen, or simply go the newly launched Burt’s Bees BB Cream and keep skin coverage to a minimum while still concealing and perfecting your skin’s surface.
Spring brings sunshine and outdoor parties, so don’t forget to protect your smile. We love Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose Nourishing Lip Balm, which conditions lips to prevent dryness and create the perfect pout.
Fake it until you make it with a sheer highlighter or shimmering bronzer, which will revive dull skin and give you a glowing complexion. Sculpt your face with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured, available in five shades, or a bronzer like bareMinerals California Bronze Multi Effect Bronzing Trio (above) for radiant skin.
