Beauty tips to upgrade your routine this year

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

It’s a new year, which means it’s high time for a beauty routine upgrade. From tossing out bad habits to introducing new must-dos, these tips will help you look your best yet in 2016.

1. Thou shall not sleep in makeup

We all know it’s one of the top beauty sins, because sleeping in makeup can block your pores and prevent your skin renewal process. But in late 2015, the trend of beauty products tailored for night routines and popularity of the slept-in beauty look – think perfectly smudged smoky eyes and tousled hair – may have encouraged you to skip the PM cleansing process. Guess what? Leaving product on your face and hair is still really bad for you in 2016.

For nights when you’re just too tired to crawl to the bathroom, a pack of cleansing wipes on your bedside table will be a total saviour for your skin.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”66″ img_size=”full” alignment=”right”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464381283539{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”62″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

2. Thou shall wear sunscreen, everywhere

We know the dangers of being unprotected from harmful ultraviolet rays and the importance of preventing sun damage, but are you doing it right? When you’re outdoors, sunscreen needs to be reapplied approximately every two hours, with at least a shot-glass amount for your entire body. Khloe Kardashian, in particular, is “addicted” to wearing sunscreen especially on her hands, because “when you’re driving your hands are constantly in the sun”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464381287346{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

3. Thou shall not wear perfume on dry skin

Is your fragrance ritual a spritz-and-go affair right before you head out the door? Unless you want your perfume to last hours less than it should, it’s time to chuck this habit. Fragrancelasts longer on moisturised skin because the oils give something for the scent to cling on to. To get your perfume lasting all day, prep your skin with some body lotion or oil before spraying. Alternatively, you can shower with LUX Love Forever for a delicate scent that lasts up to 12 hours.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464386700426{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

4. Thou shall not use dirty brushes

We most often than not, don’t wash out our makeup brushes as frequently as we should. Even if they don’t look dirty, makeup brushes can harbour bacteria, germs, and skin grime that you’d be transferring between your products and your face again and again. Taking the time to wash them in a gentle shampoo or brush cleanser can keep breakouts and irritation off your radar. Do we need to add that cleaner brushes make for smoother applications?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”63″ img_size=”full” alignment=”right”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464381283539{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”64″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

5. Thou shall switch to silk pillowcases

If you wake up with frizzy lion’s mane hair or pillowcase creases across your cheek all too often, it’s time to upgrade your sleeping arrangements. Silk pillowcases may be an investment, but they will be a worthwhile one. Not only do they reduce static and friction for your hair – hello silky smooth strands – but also prevent the tugging of skin, which creates wrinkles and sag.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464381293898{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

6. Thou shall wear heated eye masks

Sure, your blackout eye mask may be great at keeping out light, but these heated eye masks do more than just that. When worn, they gradually warm up to about 40°C, enveloping and relaxing your eyes comfortably. The steam produced by the heat work to moisten and soothe tired eyes, ensuring bright and perky peepers the next day. Best of all, they are usually lightly scented with soporific fragrances like lavender, helping you get a great night sleep.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1464386676081{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

7. Thou shall test new products properly

Eliminate the chance of reactions to new products by patch testing them over a week on an area like your lower jaw, before introducing it to your entire face. This also helps to tip you off on ingredients you might be sensitive to. In addition, our skin renews on a 28-day cycle, so don’t toss products you deem ineffective after only a week of application. Good things take time![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

8. Thou shall not use the wrong oil for your face

2015 was the year for oils. From argan to coconut to jojoba, everyone has been singing the praises of oils, with their seemingly miraculous results across a wide range of uses. But the truth is, different types of oil are mostly intended for different problems, and while multi-purpose oils do exist, they might not always work for you. So skip the heartache of breaking out or damaging your scalp by simply picking the right oil for your needs.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”65″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
